Food: Dave's Bistro Bar & Grill @ 1 Utama

A month or so back Wendy's brother bought dinner home for her. It was some pizza from Dave's in 1Utama and she found it so wonderful that she bookmarked it as a place for us to try one day.

That day finally came couple weeks back when we were reacquainting ourselves with 1U! We went on a Saturday night, and the place was crowded with a waiting list during dinner time. So expect to be on a waiting list if you plan to visit during peak hours. =)

Lots of cute little pig memorabilia line the side ledge. A tribute to the star ingredient at Dave's. =D

And so with those little piggies as a forewarning, we began our dinner with Dave's Signature Baby Back Pork Ribs (RM 48 for half slab), basted in Dave's signature barbecue sauce and served with sauteed vegetables and yummy mash. A full slab of 8-9 ribs is also available for RM 70.

These looked promising, especially since it's touted as the "Signature" ribs. Unfortunately this turned out to be another so-so offering of pork ribs. Perhaps these days we are just too spoilt with all the other pork choices around KL and PJ, but the fact remains that for the same price I would still go back to Betty's Midwest - call me bias, but I find those to be of superior taste, and at a cheaper price!

The other dish we shared was the first dish Wendy had tried from Dave's - the Dave's Signature Honey Cured Ham with Mayonnaise (RM 32)! Topped with ham, cheese & pineapple, a half meter pizza is also available for RM 58 (I can't imagine the monster pizza that would emerge..=D).

Wendy had been raving about how great it was, and when I tried it myself I could see why. The toppings were certainly generous, but what really stood out was the amount of cheese oozing off the pizza! Though the crust was a bit too thick for me, overall this was a very good choice off the menu. I would love to go back and try their other recipes another day.. =)

We were sat next to the kitchen, which has a glass partition so we could see our food being cooked. For drinks, I went for a Strawberry Milkshake (RM 11) that unfortunately failed to impress. Sticking to water might be a better option here at Dave's as drinks are expensive.

So all in all, it was a pleasant visit to Dave's. The queue was long during dinner hour from about 7-8pm, but after that the crowd thins rapidly. Come early / late to have a more quiet and relaxing environment.

P/S - there's live singing for entertainment on Saturday nights! His singing isn't going to earn him millions, but he knows how to use whatever he has to belt out pleasant tunes not uncommon in a wholesome restaurant. =)
